Demonstrating God’s Love in Action
The purpose of the Women’s Christian Service Council is to demonstrate God’s love in action as we unite women in spiritual fellowship through prayer, education, stewardship and service. The vision of W.C.S.C. is to value each woman and help her develop unique gifts as she ministers to others.
Before the inception of what is now our WCSC, the Women of World Organization was a mission group serving conference activities. In 1951, a Women’s Christian Service Council was founded by Grace Pierson. The Women’s Christian Service Council of Indian Head was not organized until 1954 during the pastorate of Rev. G. Marion Smith. Pearl Witt served as the first president of the Indian Head branch. There were approximately 25 charter members of the group that met once a month at the home of Elva Dix. The WCSC or CGWM (renamed by the General Conference—Churches of God Women’s Ministries) was and remains a strong arm of the church. It is also very active in the Allegheny Region Conference and General Conference.
The WCSC is led by a panel of officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Bible Consultant. The membership is divided equally into 5 committees: Outreach, Christian Growth, Publicity, Mission, and Service. Each committee has set goals to meet and activities for which it is responsible. Dues of $2.00 are collected each year.
The WCSC meetings are held the last Monday of each month at 7:00pm in the Church Social Room. Each meeting contains a devotional period followed by a Bible lesson. A business meeting is held and ended with a time of refreshment and fellowship. Membership is open to all woman of the church or community.
